Default Cordova, De Leon in action!

In what may become a career defining fight for a pair of top young prospects, Zeferino Entertainment will host the biggest fight card in its history when Marvin Cordova and Carlos De Leon Jr. headline at the Tropicana Casino in Las Vegas on August 23. Not only does the card feature two explosive fights in the main event and co-main event, but the entire card will be broadcast live via the World Wide Web free of charge at ZE Boxing TV.
"To be honest, we are really excited about getting the word out on our fighters, " commented promoter Zef Ramirez, "and we are hoping that this fight card will give boxing fans all over the world the opportunity to see two of the best young prospects in the world in tough fights."
The main event features undefeated welterweight prospect Marvin Cordova (19-0-1, 11 KOs) in a major step up in class as he takes on fellow prospect Derrick Samuels (15-3-1, 4 KOs). Cordova is looking to crack in the world rankings, and he knows that a dominant win over Samuels could do the trick. But Samuels, who is coming in on a six fight win streak, is looking to use a win over Cordova to establish himself as a world ranked contender in his own right.
"I am really excited about this fight, " commented Ramirez, "I think this will be a great opportunity for Marvin to establish himself in front of a world wide audience, but I know that Derrick is a tough fighter, and he certainly has what it takes to win this fight as well."
In the co-main event super middleweight contender Carlos De Leon Jr. (20-2-2, 13 KOs), fresh off his win over Buddy McGirt Jr., is taking on tough journeyman Dhafir Smith (20-18-6, 4 KOs) in an eight round fight. Despite the fac t that Smith is a last minute replacement for another tough fellow prospect in Ohio's Dallas Vargas (21-4, 15 KOs), who broke his hand last week, most see Smith as just as dangerous a foe for De Leon. Smith is coming in on the heels of a highly controversial split decision loss to world ranked Kingley Ikeke, and has pulled together a string of impressive wins over former Contender Jonathan Reid and prospect John Johnson last year. With the recent change in opponents, many are wondering if the gritty Smith could be cathing De Leon at the perfect time. However De Leon, who scored a knockout over McGirt on Showtime, is looking score to position himself for a world title fight in the coming months, and promises not to disappoint on Saturday night.
"I know he is a very tough fighter, " commented De Leon, "he hits very hard, but I trained very hard for this fight and I am confident that I will win."
Rounding off the card is an exciting cruiserweight fight featuring highly regarded prospect Aaron Williams (17-1-1, 12 KOs), who looks to get back on the winning track after suffering his first loss as he takes on tough Buckeye Zack Page (15-20-2, 5 KOs) in a six round fight. Page briefly flirted with prospect status several years ago when he won nine of his first eleven fights, but although the losses have added up in the last few years few question his grit or durability. He has only been stopped twice and in his last fight he held heavyweight prospect Jason Gavern to a draw, proving he is a very dangerous opponent for the talented prospect Williams.
Also on the card, super bantamweight contender Torrence Daniels (10-4-1, 4 KOs) looks to rebound after a disappointing loss in an NABF title fight earlier this year as he steps in against tough brawler Hassan Wasswa (5-6, 2 KOs) in a six round fight. The title fight loss was a setback for Daniels, but he realizes that a win over Wasswa could open up some doors for him and possibly position him for one more run at a title fight.
Rounding off the card light Heavyweight prospect Akinyemi Laleye (9-1, 4 KOs) looks to continue his winning ways against rugged journeyman Isaiah Henderson (11-9, 4 KOs) in a four round fight.
Tickets for the promotion can be obtained going to Las Vegas Hotels - Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel and Casino: Official Site or by calling the box office at 702-739-2495 for information.
