Default Sergio Martinez vs. Joel Julio in Doubt For Oct. 4 on HBO

A proposed HBO main event between junior middleweights Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez (43-1, 23KOs) and Joel "Love Child" Julio (34-1, 31KOs) is in doubt for the October 4 triple-header. The short-end of the problem has to do with the winner landing an immediate shot at the winner of the September 13 rematch between WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora and Vernon Forrest.
Last Friday, three deadlines were not met - all at the same time. The WBC set a deadline for both Forrest and Mora to sign an agreement to face the winner of Martinez (the WBC mandatory) and Julio, since the bout is for the WBC's interim title. Neither Mora or Forrest signed off. HBO also set Friday as the deadline for the involved parties, Main Events (who has Julio), Gary Shaw (who has the date) and Lou DiBella (who has Martinez) to get the main event in order. Main Events also set Friday as a deadline date to get the fight in order.
From what one source told BoxingScene.com, Mora and Forrest are willing to play ball with Martinez, because of his mandatory status, but are not willing to agree to give an "immediate" shot to Julio (ranked at 4 by the WBC) in the event that he wins.
To top it off, there is some concern over the winner of Martinez-Julio landing an immediate shot at Mora (should he beat Forrest), as promised by the WBC, because Mora is in line for a possible fight with Oscar De La Hoya, and some doubt the WBC will follow through with their promise to strip Mora with all of the money involved with a title defense against the biggest moneymaker in the sport.
Pat English, legal counsel for Main Events, is still hopefull the fight comes off, but if it doesn't, Julio, ranked number-one by the WBO, will likely target the champion Sergeii Dzinziruk.
Sampson Lewkowicz (Martinez's agent), and promoter Lou DiBella, are not sure who Martinez will face in the event that a Julio fight is not made.
"I can't answer that, but the one thing I do know is that Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez will be fighting on the October 4 show," Lewkowicz said.
From what once source told me, undefeated Yuri Foreman was presented to HBO as a possible opponent for Martinez, and turned down by the network.
Shaw advised BoxingScene that two of the three fights are set, with hot junior middleweight prospect Alfredo Angulo facing tough Andrey Tsurkan, and Cuban star Yuriorkis Gamboa facing Marcos Ramirez, an experienced featherweight with a 26-0, 16KOs record.
