Returning from a two-year retirement, former junior lightweight world champion Carlos "Famoso" Hernandez (43-7-1, 24 KOs) took a uneventful ten round split decison over Hector "The Mongoose" Alatorre (15-5, 4 KOs) on Friday night at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Hernandez was cut over the right eye midway and that eye was completely closed by the end, however the ex-champ did more and won 97-93, 96-94 on two cards, while Alatorre prevailed 97-93 on the third card.
Junior welterweight prospect Javier Castro (17-1, 15 KOs) scored a third round KO over Harrison Cuello (15-8-2, 11 KOs). A left hook to the chin ended Cuello's night at :47.
Unbeaten welterweight Ivan Popoca (8-0-1, 6 KOs) dropped Brian Carden (8-6, 7 KOs) twice in the opening stanza, prompting referee Gino Rodriguez to wave it off after just 2:13.
