EliteXC WW champion Jake Shields is thinking hardly about possibly fighting at 185 pounds for an organization not affiliated with EliteXC. Rumors are swirling around that it might be top ranked MW Matt "The Law" Lindland, who fights under the Affliction promotion. Below is an article courtesy of Sherdog:

Affliction is becoming a real heavyweight in MMA. Guys are coming in from all sorts of organizations now. Too bad he doesn't want to defend his belt. He becomes the EliteXC's first WW champ and he immediately leaves the organization. LOL

Well he's not exactly leaving Elite. An excellent opportunity has presented itself, which I think is fighting Lindland, who was scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort at Affliction 2. But Belfort has withdrawn from the fight due to a hand injury.

Matt is a top 10 Middleweight. And if Shields could pull off a victory against him, it would boost up his career a ton.

Oh, alright, that's cool. I agree, a win over Lindland would improve Shield's stock. Not good for Vitor though, he looked really good against Terry Martin under Couture.

Belfort looked good. His hands were REALLY good. But then again, it was against Terry Martin. No disrespect to Martin, but he's not exactly a top 20 MW.
